The Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label
The PIE solution, Inopsys' solution for the treatment of industrial wastewater containing micropollutants, was attributed the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label following an assessment performed by external independent experts and based on verified standards. It is thereby joining the #1000solutions challenge, an initiative by the Solar Impulse Foundation to select solutions that meet high standards in profitability and sustainability and present them to decision-makers to fast-track their implementation.

This solution provides a sustainable, profitable, and reliable on-site unit for the treatment and purification of pharmaceutical and chemical wastewaters. It provides an alternative for transport and incineration of hazardous wastewater and removes micropollutants such as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and endocrine disruptors. With the PIE solution, we provide a technical and economical feasible answer to the emerging problem of water quality and drinking water availability. A combination of 3 different complementary technology modules removes and converts active pharmaceutical ingredients via oxygen and ozone, ozonolysis, into biodegradable compounds that can be further treated in biological wastewater treatment. The implementation makes it possible to avoid the discharge of pharmaceuticals into surface water and the environment in general.
To receive the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label, PIE solution was thoroughly assessed by a pool of independent experts according to 5 criteria covering the three main topics of Feasibility, Environmental and Profitability. All labelled solutions are part of the #1000solutions portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in business and government by Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-track the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.
